I’m building some stories I think would be useful beyond my own team, and I’d like to share them. I’m also interested in importing stories others have built. How does story import and export work in Tines, and are there any things to watch out for when sharing stories across tenants or organisations?
Yes, you can export any story as a JSON file and share it with other teams, tenants, or even organizations.
To export, open the story menu and choose Export story. You’ll get a JSON file with the whole structure: actions, configuration, notes, and layout.
You’ll also see a Clear email addresses and monitoring recipients option. If the story is leaving your team, tick it. It strips email addresses out of your notification and monitoring settings so you’re not handing over internal contact details along with the logic.
To import, go to the Stories view, open the + New dropdown, choose Import story, and upload the file. Tines rebuilds the structure for you.
Here are some things to watch out for:
- Credentials and resources won’t transfer. The recipient needs to set up their own credentials and update actions to point to them.
- Resource references may break. Global or team resources don’t exist on the importing tenant, so those need recreating.
- External references need reconfiguring. Anything pointing outside the story (Send to Story endpoints, Pages, other stories) won’t carry over.
Sharing more broadly
If you’re sharing within the same tenant, you can move or duplicate the story into another team’s folder instead of exporting and re-importing. And if you want to share more widely, the Story Library has prebuilt stories you can import directly, and you can contribute your own, as well.
